BRAZEN RECOMMENDS: Barbara and Stanley: A Modern Romance

This short film by NOWNESS is quite possibly one of the most charming things I’ve ever watched. Barbara Flood (model and actress) and Stanley Dorfman (film director, producer and co-creator of Top of the Pops) have been in a relationship for over forty years despite never living in the same time zone. She’s a New York girl through and through, while he prefers the slower pace and sunny climes of Los Angeles, California — and not once have they considered having it any other way. Both are content to live their own lives on their own terms on opposite sides of the country, safe and secure in the connection they share that “goes far beyond a guy and a girl. We seem to have a ‘we’ that goes through everything.” In this 17-minute short film, it’s clear from their sweet interactions and the love in their eyes that these two fascinating human beings were truly made for each other, and that the years and distance have only deepened their bond. Check it out to learn more about how they met, how they live and how they keep their romance alive. (Also, for some adorable clips of them learning how to navigate Instagram!)

We’ve had our own lives, we’ve had our own beings, but here we are — Barbara and Stanley. What more could a girl want?
