PERHAPS IF

Perhaps if

In the sound of melodies made,
Were spoken the words we wish to say,
No shared passion we’d betray,
Together, in harmony we’d play.

Perhaps if

Distance played not a part,
Affections need not hide,
I would sit by your side,
Watching you create art.

Perhaps if

Our fingers could interlace,
Breaths mingled in a quiver,
You would feel a warm shiver,
The moment our lips embraced.

Perhaps if

In the silence of unconfessed wanting,
Behind every secret smile and stolen glance,
Our outstretched arms taking a chance,

Perhaps then,

Will we fulfil our ardent longing.
