We've already explored how limits, when used cleverly, can aid our creativity and help us approach our craft from a different perspective. We've also spoken about using limits as a vehicle to explore our unlimited potential. In this experiment, we put that theory to the test.

“When I think of hurdles that may prove most challenging for a professional dancer to overcome, a few come to mind. Injury would be a big one; not having enough funds to pursue opportunities would be another; not having the opportunity to perform in the first place; and dealing with the feeling of not being good enough that all artists must face at some point. Over the past few years, Sueki has faced them all.”

An issue about limits wouldn't be complete without at least mentioning the one so many of us have been facing over the past few months. Here, the BRAZEN community shares their thoughts on how this period of self-isolation has affected them, and what they’ve learned from practising this unusually limited way of life.

“You merely exist in the compromised present— your future so small that it’s hardly worth your time in effort, your past, a wide ocean of regrets. You look forward to your past with ‘what could have been’ lenses. Your time… is limiting.”

As counterintuitive as it sounds, limits can actually help creativity rather than hinder it. In this experiment, we intentionally set ourselves a limit to work with, and put the phrase “limits breed creativity” to the test.
