BRAZEN RECOMMENDS: The Danger of a Single Story

The Danger of a Single Story | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This TED talk by the novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie left me with plenty of food for thought about how I've bought into "single stories" in the past, and how I can do better moving forward. Essentially, to believe a single story is to buy into a single limited perspective on any given situation or issue, and with this comes dangers both obvious and subtle. Over the past several months, one-dimensional and inaccurate media coverage of the curve balls 2020 keeps throwing at us have made me more aware of how important it is to seek out more diverse narratives. Thanks to this talk, I was able to define this approach more clearly, and become more conscious in my pursuit of knowledge and perspective. I do encourage you to listen to the whole thing, as she explains the concept far better than I can. It is our responsibility, after all, to read and listen to as many stories as possible, so we may better understand each other and this world we all call home.
